Finally, Nothing
So I guess my nothing is actually something. Looking back at when I last updated, things have happened as I will demonstrate.
Exhibit A:
Mom's knee surgery went well and she felt relief from the pain fairly soon after the surgery. The harder part has been getting her muscle back because she was off her leg for a few months. But she has progressed well and though she hasn't recovered fully, she is now walking normally and getting back at it.
Exhibit B:
Turbo broke a bone in his foot. His vet splinted his leg, but over the course of about three weeks it did not heal, so we had a consult with the MU vet clinic. They did surgery on him on April 7th, about a week ago. He is splinted again and is wearing a collar so that he doesn't lick. The hardest part is that he will be caged for 8-10 weeks so that the bones can fuse and heal; for those who have met him, you know that this will be a real challenge for him. But he is healing well and doing great as he nears his 13th birthday. And hopefully by then he will have full use of all four of his legs. Kishka is doing very well.
Exhibit C:
Mom and I went to Seattle for my three year check up. Overall I am doing well. As always, some things were better and some things weren't, but they decided to have me go down on prednisone. Yay! It will be a two year taper if all goes well. As always, I got to see my faithful friend. Thanks Heather. And I visted with the wonderful people at SCCA. The trip was kind of a whirlwind (up Tuesday, appointments Wednesday, home Thursday) until the time came to go home. The radiologist who read my chest x-ray found a black smudge which he concluded was a pneumothorax (definition: something they don't let you fly with-like so many other things ;-) ) They kept me til Friday to see if it was growing or shrinking. Happily on Thursday it was gone; nothing to worry about. We flew home Saturday. Me and my stuff, hrumph. Thankfully it resolved itself.
Exhibit D:
Harley, Amy, Elise and Will came to visit shortly after the Seattle adventure. It was good to see and spend time with them. Happily we will see them again this summer.
Exhibit E:
This past weekend(April 10-11), Mom, Dad and I were able to go to St. Louis to cheer on the Gateway Chapter Team in Training participants who were doing the Go! St. Louis marathon/half-marathon. I love to cheer. We wear goofy green and purple things and I scream until I lose my voice (still not completely back). We were out for about six hours and were able to cheer for everyone at least once. Go Team in Training!!
Exhibit F:
I have also been busy with the Patient Family Advisory Committee at University Hospital. I am enjoying getting to know the other participants and trying to help make it an even better place.
So, I am staying busy and doing well. I still look forward to a time when I am able to work. I am thankful, though, for having made it here. It's amazing. I hope that all of you are well and enjoying spring (or fall, depending on where you are). Thanks so much for thinking of and supporting me.
